Halloween Sheltering Tree

While making some Christmas cards the other day, I suddenly realized that there are another couple of holidays before Christmas that I need to prepare for, but alas! right now I have no Halloween stamps from the current catalogs to work with. The fall Holiday catalog was just delivered to my door a day ago, and we will be able to order from it starting September 1st, but in the meantime, I decided to see what I could create with just what I have on hand.

First of all, I didn’t break the bank; I used two stamp sets, the Sheltering Tree photopolymer set and the new photopolymer Labeler Alphabet. This is a great little item that includes two different letter sets, one of which has some duplicate letters which allows easier spelling of words with multiple letters (see how I spelled the word “treat” with two “t’s”?)

I used two inks, Memento Tuxedo Black (my first choice with photopolymer stamps) and Craft White to make the ghostly tree on the dark cardstock. I also used the 2″ Circle Punch and the Bitty Butterfly Punch with the bottoms of the wings snipped off with a regular office hole punch to make the bats (see how that’s done?) You could also trim them off with Paper Snips. I figured this out, by the way, a couple of Halloween seasons ago when I didn’t have a Bat Punch – necessity is the Mother of Invention, as they say!

Here are the cardstock colors that I used on my “Mother of Invention” Halloween card:

And really, the only other embellishments I used on this card were three gold sequins and a little black ink sponged around the sentiment.
