Companion Cards – Making a Matched Set!

By | January 30, 2017

Last time I posted a card made with the stamped image of the dragonfly from the Dragonfly Dreams set (left.) But there’s so much more that we can do with Dragonfly Dreams and the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits dies (on page 26 of the spring Occasions catalog) so I used the same color scheme, ribbon and Designer Series Paper on the second card.

As you can see, this card really coordinates well with the first card, but with a few changes it also has its own unique look. On my first card, I placed a pearl on the body of the stamped dragonfly, while on the second I used a rhinestone on the die cut dragonfly and a small strip of silver Glimmer Paper as an accent. Tip: when cutting a strip of Glimmer Paper in your Stampin’ Trimmer, turn the glittery side down and cut through the smooth backing; it will be easier to cut and better for your blade.

If you want to make a set of cards to give someone as a gift, you can easily do so by using various combinations of the coordinating stamps and dies from any Stampin’ Up! bundle, plus keeping a consistent color theme throughout, in this case Pool Party, Emerald Envy and Whisper White, with silver or pearl accents.

I also further coordinated this second card to the first one by making banner ends on my sentiment strips. Did you notice that on the first card I used a small strip of Designer Series Paper underneath the tied ribbon? I used the same pattern of paper on the left-hand side of my second card. (This paper design is one from the A Little Foxy Designer Series Paper Stack – 141637.)

Great Deal: Through March 31st, you can buy the Dragonfly Dreams stamps and dies bundle, and one other supply item – such as the Ruched Ribbon, Pearls or Rhinestones, or Stampin’ Dimensionals – and you will qualify to pick a free product from the Sale-A-Bration catalog! That’s right; free stamps or other supplies for every $50 that you order. Check out the choices here!

Here are the supplies that I used on the Companion Emerald Dragonfly Card. Please note that I used a sentiment from the Sheltering Trees set – just for variety! Click on any picture to read more or to order online:

A great design for using two patterned papers. I always go horizontal – I must remember to give vertical a whirl as I really like this look!
