Dryer Sheet Technique for Intricate Dies

By | May 10, 2015

I posted this tutorial on my Stampin’ Up! website about 5 months ago, but it is such a great help that I want to re-post it here. I love it when I learn a new way to do something that makes the job quick and easy! That’s exactly what I’m going to show you with this technique for any die that has a lot of little holes in the design – no more poking with a stylus to get them out!

I’m using the medium-sized butterfly from the Butterflies thinlits die set that is in the spring Occasions catalog. It will also be in the upcoming 2015-2016 annual catalog along with other thinlits sets for which this technique will be useful.

First, die cut the image by running it through the Big Shot. You may have to run it through 2-3 times depending on your machine. Then turn it over and the card stock will be stuck to the die as shown.

Next, take two dryer sheets, one on top of the other, then fold them in half, and in half again. Lay the die on the dryer sheets, card stock side down, and put them on the cutting pad of the Big Shot, on either the magnetic or regular platform.

Next, cover the die with the other cutting pad and run through the Big Shot. Pull the die off and the card stock will be stuck to the dryer sheets.

Pull the corner of the butterfly, and it will come off cleanly, leaving all of the little hole images stuck to the dryer sheets. Those can be flicked off into the waste basket. You can use your dryer sheets over and over again. Genius! You can now use your butterfly die cut to decorate a project, such as this card using the coordinating stamp set, Butterfly Basics:

You can rinse your cutting pads off with water to remove any residue that may build up from the dryer sheets.
