Gladys’ Garden Remembered

Pink Peonies

When I started working with the new Bunch of Blossoms set and coordinating Blossom Builder Punch, I wanted to recreate a Peony, one of those full and fragrant flowers that bloom in profusion in the gardens back east. Reggie’s mom Gladys had Peony bushes outside of her back door; they are still there now and they always remind me of her. When I made my card, I even put a few dropped petals at the bottom, as Peonies are prone to do! And what would a garden be without dragonflies and bees whizzing around (I got mine from the new Touches of Texture set.)

One year, my sister-in-law Mindy and I each had new digital cameras and we had fun taking close-up pictures of Gladys’ many flowers. I took several of the prints and made a “Squash Book” for her. This is what it looks like fully opened:

and this is what it looks like when it is closed:

A squash book only takes three 12″ x 12″ sheets of cardstock, scored, folded and adhered together, along with patterned paper and the photos. The front and back cover are made from foam core board covered with patterned paper and tied with a ribbon.

Here are the colors that I used on Gladys’ Peony card:

You can click on any swatch to see what coordinating products Stampin’ Up! offers in these colors.

Here are the supplies that I used to make my card. If you want to make a peony like mine, use three big flower petals and six small ones arranged in a triad formation as shown, with plenty of tape on the back to keep everything in place! Click on any picture for more details or to order:

I’ve shown you how to make Peonies and Poppies with this great new Bunches of Blossoms set. What else can you make? Share your ideas in the comments above!

Thanks for the tip – I will check it out! Another of my WordPress blips may be coming your way – I just tried to reply to you via the ‘alerts’ button but it kept telling me the message had failed and to try again. Which I did, about five times….If they all come through eventually you will get pretty bored!!

Really pretty card. Also I have never seen a squash book before – it looks great fun to make and to receive!

Thanks, Gillian! Here is a tutorial that I found on Splitcoast Stampers; it’s for a smaller version but it can be made bigger like mine: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/squash_book/ When using 12″ x 12″ cardstock, I cut two pieces of foam core board 6 1/4″ x 6 1/4″ for the covers and then wrapped them with patterned paper before attaching the folded 12″ x 12″ pieces.
