Glimmer Paper Pumpkins!

Remember a couple of days ago when I was showing my Halloween swaps and I mentioned that I had an idea for how to use the new Pumpkin Pie Glimmer Paper in the Holiday Catalog?

Well, this weekend I had a chance to put my thoughts into action, and I designed this really fun and simple Thanksgiving card!

As I mentioned, I love that shiny, glittery paper, and we have it in a few different colors in the regular annual catalog, but for the past couple of years we’ve seen that the Holiday Catalog will often have a limited edition of a special color offered, and this year it’s Pumpkin Pie. The Glimmer Paper comes in a package of two 12″ x 12″ sheets for $5.00, which is a good price, but you do want to maximize your use of this specialty item and not waste it! So, here’s what I did to get three descending sizes of pumpkins from a small portion of my paper:

How to cut glimmer pumpkins

I used the small and large swirl dies from the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits set, and I laid one inside of the other on my paper. I found that the larger die would fit on a 2 3/4″ strip of paper, so I cut that first with my paper trimmer, and I turned it glitter side down before running the dies through the Big Shot for better cutting.

See that last pumpkin? That was a bit of serendipity; that was the curlicue left over from the inside of the middle-sized pumpkin and it made a wonderful baby-sized one to finish off the line-up!

All of the stamp images that I used behind the pumpkins are from the Swirly Bird photopolymer stamp set that coordinates with the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits dies. I used Garden Green ink on the stems and Old Olive for the leaves, same as the card base. The greeting stamped in Pumpkin Pie ink is from the new Paisleys & Posies set in the Holiday Catalog, and that will be showing up a lot in the next few weeks and months; it’s so classic and versatile.

Here’s our simple color scheme for the Glimmer Paper Pumpkins card:

So, what do you think? What else can I use my Pumpkin Pie Glimmer Paper for?

I love that glimmer paper. As for other uses – it oozes Autumn (sorry, Fall!) so maybe die cut into leaf shapes and make a lovely wreath? Or could you die cut again, and then harden it up and shape it a bit with clear UTEE, then use it for decorating picture frames or small gift boxes? Thanksgiving table decoration? I’d be tempted to cover a pair of shoes with it….

Great idea, Gillian! I hadn’t even thought about that, but I’m getting some leaf die cutters delivered tomorrow. I’ve also got some red and gold glimmer paper – yep, that’s the ticket!
