Happy Birthday to the Girl Who Loves Socks!

By | December 4, 2016

My daughter Anne is celebrating her 27th birthday today! I can tell you a few things about Anne; she was due to be born on Thanksgiving Day in November 1989 but she came 11 days late, so she was born in December instead, three weeks before Christmas. She loves animals, and she decided to become a vegetarian when she was 12  years old. She never diverged from that; in fact she is now vegan and she enjoys cooking and trying new recipes. She works part-time and attends college part-time, majoring in Biotechnology. She is creative, politically active and service-oriented. And, she loves cool socks!

So, this year, since I had just gotten the Hang Your Stocking stamp set with the coordinating Christmas Stockings Thinlits Dies, I decided to make something a little different for Anne Marie’s birthday card that would reflect her love of socks:

I had an idea to make some socks like a pair that I had gotten her a few years ago in Vermont; hand knit with different brightly colored yarns and each sock knitted a little different than the other.

The way I did this was to die cut two open patterned socks in Daffodil Delight cardstock, and then three solid socks in each of Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay and Rich Razzleberry cardstocks. Then, I cut the solid color socks in three roughly equal pieces in the same spots and reassembled them in different color order with tape on the back to hold the pieces together. I then glued the yellow open weave socks over the top of the reassembled solid socks.

I die cut a heart from Melon Mambo cardstock, sponged some Rich Razzleberry ink around the edges and stamped the “you warm my heart” sentiment from the Sheltering Tree stamp set at the top. I pinned the two socks together with a mini clothes pin and attached everything to the card front with strong Tear & Tape adhesive. The front panel of the card is Bermuda Bay cardstock and the card itself is Daffodil Delight.

Here are the supplies that I used to make the Warm My Heart Socks card:

Price: $110.00

I will be showing you some Christmas cards made with the Hang Your Stocking stamp set in a later post, but it’s always great when you can figure out ways to use your stamps and dies in alternative ways, isn’t it?

How you made the multi-coloured socks is so effective. Love them! Great colours too.

Thanks! The best part was, when she opened the card, she recognized that I had made her fancy gift socks!

Thank you, Suzanne, quite a compliment coming from you! I’m glad you liked “The Beetles” – the ladybug template was so much fun to work with. (Or were you talking about the Beatles’ cards I put up on John Lennon’s birthday?) And congratulations on your three new cards in the December issue of Take Ten!

Thanks! This one rumbled around in my mind for a while before I decided how to approach it!
