My husband and I will be in church today, each teaching an Easter lesson to our respective classes, but it is also my dad’s 85th birthday! The family gathered yesterday to celebrate Dad, and one funny thing that happened is that everyone gave him the same thing – Taco Bell gift cards! You can’t mess with success – it’s his favorite casual dining spot with grandson John. He figures they’re good through at least June for Chalupas, Burritos and works.
Here is the card I made for my dad, using the Number of Years Photopolymer stamp set, plus a greeting from the Suite Sentiments set and a bitty butterfly from Papillon Potpourri (both retiring as of May 31st!)
I always try to do my best when making a card for my dad, because he was my first Art Teacher and everything that I do with paper and ink I can thank him for, as his influence and inspiration will always be with me.
Here are the colors that I used on my dad’s Best Guy Ever card:
Dad went to pick up the mail during the festivities, and there was a hand-crafted card from Kathy Degree, a perfect complement to the German Chocolate cake:
We are so happy that we can honor our dad for the full and exemplary life that he has led.
Here are the supplies that I used on his Best Guy Ever birthday card:
Oh, what a super story of your Dad being your art inspiration. A good father is such a wonderful thing. And that generation (my dad would have been a similar age), I think did not exactly have parenting in their “tool box” from any education. Maybe the USA was different? Seem to me they just did a good job from being nice people! I hope your Dad had a great birthday.
Gillian, thank you so much for the birthday wishes for Dad. You’re right, no special parenting training in those days, but he is an easy-going, nice person, and he was a fun dad to grow up with. He was a public school teacher, in art and industrial arts, so my sister and I always had lots of materials around to work with, and he was patient when showing us how to do things.
Both your card, and Kathy’s are beautiful. I love your layering technique, and I learned something new from Kathy- I never thought if using a metallic pen to highlight the raised areas of an embossed folder.
Thanks, Patricia! I’m really happy to hear that you learned a new technique from seeing Kathy’s card; I will make sure to mention that to her.
Fabulous card Valory. Birthday wishes for your Dad. Great photos.

Thanks, Flo!
I always love your cards! They are so pretty =). See what I mean. I get inspired!
Thank you, Tam! I’m glad to hear that my cards can be an inspiration to you 🙂
