Love is in the Air

By | February 13, 2017

During the weekend my husband and I drove east on California Interstate 80 to visit my parents in Auburn. We have had so much rain during the past few weeks that we noticed places here and there on the way that were filled with water, like this floodplain on either side of the Causeway between Davis and Sacramento:

The state water managers opened the gates of the Sacramento Weir, which haven’t been opened in a decade, to let the dangerously high waters of the Sacramento River spill over it’s top into this floodplain filled with rice paddies and other crops. Quite dramatic to see these trees, which are normally on dry land, engulfed in water! And thankful for engineers who know how to build the infrastructure to save our cities from destructive floods now that the rain has returned after a 5-year drought.

Well, while engineers design life-saving structures, I have been designing with cardstock and ink to create a special Valentine card for my parents:

While I used some small scraps of a retired Designer Series Paper, it really doesn’t require the used of these exact papers to recreate this simple layout. I started with a white card, layered with a Rose Red cardstock panel overlaid with a smaller panel of Sahara Sand. I had three 2″ x 2″ squares of this designer paper, placing two in the corners of the front panel and using the third flipped over to reveal the coordinating pattern, which I then die cut into a heart. Framed with a larger die cut heart of Blushing Bride cardstock, this forms the central motif. I used Rose Red ink and then added a length of coordinating Blushing Bride Sequin Trim.

The stamp set is 140643 Bloomin’ Love, and here is the main color scheme:

 along with Whisper White cardstock.

Of course my folks were appreciative of this handmade Valentine card, reminiscent of the kind of cards that I probably produced in grade school with construction paper, sparkly decorations and white school glue!

Here are links to the supplies that I used on my Love is in the Air card:
