Several months ago I sent a few cards in for consideration for Take Ten’s Re-Tag Challenge. The idea was to take a tag or label from a commercial product and to incorporate it into the card art piece.This was mixed media type of project, and the card that I had published in the Winter 2015 issue of Take Ten magazine re-used the hang tag from a bottle of “Make a Stand Lemon-Aid.” This product is manufactured by a company started three years ago by a little girl in California named Vivienne Harr who, when learning about the reality of children her own age in other countries who are enslaved workers, was shocked and saddened, and decided to proactively do something about it.
With her parents’ help, this 8-year-old girl started selling lemonade, first at a stand outside her home, to raise money to help children. With persistence it grew into a bigger enterprise, and it is now a successful company that raises substantial funds to free enslaved children from their bondage. The words on the hang tag read, “This precious lem-gem fights slavery.” What a great story about a little girl who felt compassion and decided to act on it!

For much of this year my Blog has been less active, with me unable to commit to commenting, etc but I always catch-up with lovely comments. It was lovely to recognise a name whose artwork I have come to enjoy viewing within the pages of Stampington publications.
